Ayni Anand Healing Sanctuary
Thank you for your interest in Ayni Anand! This land is full of beautiful, powerful healing energies, and the spirits of the land delight in welcoming guests and holding sacred space for healing and connection. In addition to being my guest, please consider yourself a guest of all the nature and spirit beings that reside here.
Ayni Anand Healing Sanctuary is a sacred place that serves as a powerful container for healing and transformation. Ayni is a Quechua word that refers to honoring the values of reciprocity and mutualism among the people of the Andean mountains. I think of it as an invitation for us to live in harmony and reciprocity with all the cosmos.
Anand comes from Sanskrit and also the Gurmukhi language of the Sikh tradition of India. It has many meanings, including joy/delight and the state of experiencing spiritual/mystical transcendence and bliss. The words Ayni and Anand bring together beautiful energies and frequencies of what is possible for us both on the physical and spiritual planes.
I lived at the sanctuary for two and a half years and have been very intentional in creating a space and a vibe of comfort and home for those who wish to connect more deeply to themselves, those they are with, with nature, and spirit. The accommodations are meant to be comfortable and simple allowing one to rest while enjoying the beautiful 4.4 acres of land the property is on.
Some History:
I spent years searching for the right place to co-create a healing sanctuary and was blessed enough to get the property at the end of 2019. After getting the keys, we worked very hard to get the whole place furnished and ready to host our first weekend retreat with 10 amazing students. It was such an amazing experience of the first part of this dream being realized when we moved the furniture and had our first deep healing retreat in the living room.
My original plan was to
Land Connection:
In order to engage with the spirits of the land in a loving, sacred way, I invite you to bring a little offering (some sage, tobacco, cedar, corn meal, dried fruit, flowers, etc...something natural that would be safe if a wild animal ate it) to offer upon arrival and upon departure.
When you arrive, head out behind the house and see if there’s a tree, rock, or spot of Earth you are drawn to and ask permission to be on the land and to be welcomed, supported, and protected for your retreat while making your offering. Allow your heart to open and see if the spirits of the land have anything they’d like to share with you.
When you’re getting ready to go, find the same or a different spot and give thanks for your experience and share anything else you’d like with the spirits of the land while making your offering.
Wilderness Territory:
Please note that when you are on the sanctuary lands, you are in wilderness territory, just as you would be if you went to a National Forest or Nature Preserve in the area, so please prepare accordingly for an outdoor adventure.
That means good shoes for the outdoors, good sun protection, good mosquito/tick repellant, and long pants and sleeves if you plan on walking beyond the yurt/house area.
The area is also home to bees, bunnies, ants (including red ants), turkeys, deer, snakes (including gopher, garden, and rattle), spiders, coyotes, and wildlife typical for this area. And though I have not personally seen any, I have heard there may be a mountain lion in the area.
There is poison oak on the property, so I would recommend staying in the areas that are clear of brush and watching where you step and what you touch.
This should not alarm you as there are many of us who live and work safely and joyfully on the land. It is meant for you to be aware and mindful of how you prepare for your time here and what you should be on the lookout for when you are here.
House/Yurt/Property Protocol:
Please remove shoes when entering the house or yurt. I recommend bringing a pair of house slippers, especially for the yurt, which has a concrete floor that can be quite chilly.
The sanctuary welcomes guests for healing/retreat purposes. Please do not bring any alcohol, drugs, or meat products to the property.
No smoking of any kind on the property. Ceremonial use of sage, tobacco, or similar plant allies is welcome in the yurt. Please be VERY respectful of this as we are in fire risk territory and a tiny spark carried by the wind, especially during dry season, can cause terrible devastation.
Directions:
Ayni Anand is located 2.5 miles from the town of Julian and the main access to the property is via Pine Hills Road.
From Pine Hills, turn onto Deer Lake Park Road. You will then turn left into the 3rd driveway, which is a long access road to several properties. (You will see several house numbers, including 3543, when you turn onto the access road.)
Please drive very slowly on this road (10 mph) and be mindful that there may be wildlife crossing the road. It is a gravel road that is rough in spots, so if you have a vehicle that is low to the ground, you may wish to drive extra carefully.
Ayni Anand is at the end of the access road, which splits into 3 driveways at the end. 3543 is the middle driveway (gravel, not paved).
Please park vehicles close together in the parking area by the house and on the driveway. Please do not park or drive onto any part of the land outside the gravel driveway as the land is very soft in areas and very easily damaged. This means that if we have several vehicles, some may need to back out of the driveway if there is not enough space to turn around.
Closing:
I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to share the sanctuary with you and thank you in advance for the gift of your presence. I will be saying prayers that the land welcome you with open arms and support you while you are here. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Love, gratitude and blessings to you.
